Sabbath Moments

I always look forward to this meme.
Colleen Spiro hosts it each week and invites you to join by using the link in my sidebar.
Colleen is a wonderful person. She's a great write; website owner, spiritual director, parish secretary, public speaker, wife, mother, grandma, and more!
Once you visit her site and blog, they will become "bookmarks" for you as you'll want to keep going back!
She has a great new e-book, too! Don't miss it!

I enjoyed some lovely Sabbath Moments this week. Here are a few:

1) While the kids and I were keeping a holy hour of Adoration, we prayed a rosary together for our bishop. (We do this at the beginning of each new month). Just as we were singing the Ave Maria after the last Glory Be...a STREAM of sunlight BURST through the stained glass window and shone/glimmered/illuminated itself on the Monstrance and Our Lord's Blessed Sacrament! As I was gazing at this unexpected beauty...little Benjamin's voice rose up above the others, singing "Ave, Ave, Ave Maria". The JOY of the moment overwhelmed me and my eyes filled with tears. That sweet, darling little boy, looking up at Jesus and singing his little heart out. So beautiful.

2) Had to write my monthly article for the FAR Above Rubies site. My column is "Biblical Womanhood" and each month, I submit an article pertinent to that topic. This month, my post is entitled, "Praying Your Way Through Your Housework". Writing that article was a Sabbath Moment for me...as it reminded me of how very PRESENT God is while I go about the everyday tasks and duties that come with keeping a home. As St. Therese often said, even sweeping a floor is a great gift to God if we do it with a joyful heart.

3) We keep things very plain and simple; "toned down" if-you-will, around our house during Lent. On our dining table (where there are usually flowers or lovely centerpieces) is a jar candle. Around the base of it, is a "crown of thorns" that Jake and Laura fashioned for me out of some bramble that grows in our woods. I love sitting in the evening and just looking at that, with the lights dimmed and the candle lit. It speaks to my heart about the sacrifice the Lord made for me.

4) I rested. I don't do that very often...just REST. No book to read, nothing to write...just sat and enjoyed the quiet. It was wonderful.

Ahhh, rest. So refreshing and a beautiful sabbath moment.
I will have to go read your article. Sounds great!
Love candles and love the idea of a crown of thorns centerpiece. Matches my header!
Lovely Sabbath Moments for sure! Thanks for sharing them with us!

Thanks, Colleen! But, the article won't be published til later this month...I'll let you know. The owner of the site, Jasmine Cucuta, likes her contributors to have the articles in by the first of the month so that she can edit and schedule for posting later.

Your story about adoration and Ben's singing was something I could easily imagine. What I love about little kids is their simplicity and generous hearts. Wish I could have been there in person.

Barb ~ wish you could have been there with us, too!
You are right...children are SO authentic and simple...I suppose that is why the Lord reminded us that we need to become like them to enter His kingdom! I learn SO much from children :)
