7 Quick Takes

Jennifer's ConversionDiary blog is always full of surprises. Click the image above in my sidebar and pay a visit there today...this meme is offered each Friday as a way to share the sum of the ideas on your mind throughout the week! Thanks Jennifer!

MY QUICK TAKES TODAY:

1) We shouldn't underestimate the value of a true friend. This is a GREAT blessing from God. When someone is sent to our lives that encourages, supports, admonishes when needed, quides, comforts, shares, helps, and loves us for who we are...we must remember to THANK THE LORD ABOVE for it is SUCH a gift to have someone closely sharing the journey with us.

2) SOUP...I'm thinking about SOUP...hmmm....what kind shall we make? Got any good soup recipes for me? I'd LOVE for you to share them!

3) I am so thankful that my son-in-law's lay-off was so short-lived. He was let go just before the holiday and begins a new job already TODAY! WHEW! WHAT A RELIEF! (Thank you God!)

4) RECEIVE the Light of Christ! These are my favorite spoken words from the Sacrament of Baptism...I was privileged and thrilled to see my sweet grand-daughter Haley Elizabeth become a child of God this past Sunday! Having the opportunity to renew my own Baptismal vows is always a very moving experience for me. He is to be OUR GOD and we are to be HIS PEOPLE!

5) We MISS football! Poor Jake really misses playing with his team out there and the rest of us miss cheering them on from the stands as we bundle in blankets and ring our cow bell. Let's see....how long until August? Ah, but WAIT...we need only wait until APRIL for BASEBALL!!!!

6) This line from Tom Cruise's "The Last Samauri" has been sticking with me...when writing in his journal, the character says of the people who have taken him captive: "They spend every waking moment seeking the perfection of whatever it is they have set out to do". WOW
This really struck me...how often do I TRULY seek the PERFECTION of what I am setting out to do? This movie line made me think back though...for this is one of the things that I loved about and was so taken with my husband when we were young...he was that way...whether shining his shoes, managing the restaurant he worked in at the time, serving his nation as an Army Reservist...whatever it was...he gave it his ALL...100%...I love that.

7) We will be sharing St. Nicholas's feast day this coming Sunday with our dear friends who are also my daughter Sarah's godparents. Do you follow the delightful custom of placing a shoe outside your bedroom doors to be filled with candy by morning? My kids love this. The best part about visiting with our friends is that I will get to hold their sweet, darling, new baby boy!!!! YAY!!! BABY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And maybe I can go look at his baby bed for a while since I miss Benny's so much, ha ha!
